Keremet Bank OJSC is a bank of "green" opportunities.
Keremet Bank OJSC was one of the first commercial banks in Kyrgyzstan to become a member of the “Green Alliance of Kyrgyzstan” Association. Implementation of the principles of "green" banking and responsible financing "Keremet Bank" began with the adoption of system strategic documents:
- Sustainable Development Strategy of Keremet Bank OJSC for 2023-2024 aimed at implementation of ESG-banking with approval of a comprehensive Environmental-Social-Governance (ESG) program.
- The Code of Corporate Ethics has been updated and the commitment to the principle of gender equality, the desire to create a fair and inclusive working environment (i.e., an environment where conditions are created for socialization and adaptation of people with disabilities), where every employee, regardless of gender, has equal opportunities and rights, can show their potential, and achieve success has been confirmed.
This work was carried out within the framework of the UN Sustainable Development Goals ratified by the Kyrgyz Republic, among which gender issues are the fifth of the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals.
- The Bank's Risk Management Policy includes a new chapter on ESG risk management. Environmental, social, governance risks will be managed in correlation with other financial risks accompanying the Bank's activities.
To fulfill the tasks set out in the Sustainable Development Strategy of Keremet Bank OJSC, a special working group was established to coordinate the activities of the structural units and branches of the Bank, which, being in operational communication with the "Green Alliance of Kyrgyzstan", is working on topical issues of "green" finance, sustainable development, and reduction of negative impact on the environment.
Within the framework of cooperation with the "Green Alliance of Kyrgyzstan", the Bank initiated a comprehensive study on the availability of supply and demand, the need of Kyrgyzstan in qualified "green" personnel in accordance with the scope of the tasks and contribution of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Paris Agreement on climate change.
The Bank offered the Green Alliance to participate in a project to co-finance a loan product for pursuing higher education in the field of ecology and “green” economy.
The Bank in its operational activities is gradually implementing a program of transition to "green office" standards with separate garbage collection, use of energy-efficient appliances and other resource-saving technologies.
For the Issyk-Kul branch, a separate comprehensive plan for pilot transformation of its operations as a "green office" has been developed.
Issyk-Kul branch was chosen as a pilot "green office" to support the Government's initiatives on greening the pearl of Kyrgyzstan - Lake Issyk-Kul.
And, from the latest significant events of the Bank in the sphere of responsible finance - just the other day the Bank approved the concepts of 3 new "green" financial products with names that speak for themselves - "ECO heat", "ECO drive", "Bilim – omur chyragy" (Knowledge is a source of life).
